Does Your Furniture Have A Story To Tell?

We have picked up a lot of furniture before. We have found kids letters, love letters, drawings, receipts, bills, quilts, hair ties, glitter, and other random things in our furniture. I always check furniture before we paint but not really when we pick up. This time was no different.
When we were carrying this mid century dresser onto our trailer something fell out.
My first thought was…oh no, the dresser bottom has a hole in it! BUT, nope it didnt. What had fallen out was a full box…

Handmade & To Die For

We see a lot of furniture. Like, a lot.
This piece was special and I could feel it. I loved all the trim around it. The top wasn’t attached, and yes the trim was missing and falling off but I needed this piece.
Unfortunately, every single drawer had at least some trim missing and every drawer had DIFFERENT trim. Sigh.
Brandt reattached the top and re-glued all the drawers. While making all the repairs to the dresser, he realized this piece was completely hand built by someone. Even the dove…

Dumpster Dresser

This poor sad dresser was on it’s way to the dump. When I say dump, I mean a giant facility where things go to die.
Follow this if you can: My husband’s nurse at his day job owns a transfer station (Meramec Valley Transfer Facility). Complicated. BUT- one of her missions is recycling and she pays someone to pull things out before they reach the dump that might be worth saving and every now and then we are lucky enough to get a call. We purchased this dresser from her and it was badly damaged but I was…

Gold Leafing Furniture

This dresser came out of a recycling center. There is a local company that pays someone to sort through things and pull out anything “good”. This was a solid dresser but it had tons of gouges, chunks of wood missing, water rings and more. The lovely gold trim was not lovely…it was beat up. This thing was ugly. Honestly, I had zero vision for it.
My sister-in-law has a gorgeous apartment in Minneapolis that she seems to be furnishing with lots of goodies from us. She bought our first…

Mellow Yellow Dresser

I bought this dresser sign unseen.
I was pretty sad to find out it had been previously been painted. Not just painted though….painted with something I am sure would be illegal now considering my 40 grit sandpaper did nothing to it. We tend to “over prep” so to get this to something satisfactory took HOURS.
The legs came off and were repaired and reattached properly. Once that was done, we got set painting and I selected Sommerset Gold from General Finishes. I think this is the perfect yellow. We typically…

A Glass of Champagne

I love Modern Masters paint. It is amazing. Jennifer from The Magic Brush has been teasing me with warm silver finishes.

I happened to have just the dresser that could use this treatment. This dresser had tons of metal accents. Each piece of furniture tells a story and this one is no different. It was custom built and then it seems to have been sent to Chesterfield, Mo back in the day where all these custom metal accents were fixed on. It has several metal decals even metal shoes! Every girl needs a great pair of shoes!

This is a Maaaaan’s Dresser

rustic black dresser with reclaimed barn wood

So…This baby is my husbands pride and joy and he says “This is a Maaaaan’s dresser.” After you finish rolling your eyes or giggling…take a look at the pictures. You will see he was right! It turned out beautiful. This would look great in several places in your home but it would be especially nice as a dresser for your man 🙂

Check out the before!

The top on this was completely destroyed. We recently started sharing a space with Reclaim Renew so my…

1800’s Oak Dresser Gets A 2013 Update

We got this dresser from a couple who got it from an antique shop, several decades ago, on the east coast. It’s in great shape. One of our only pieces that required no rebuilding…not even on a drawer! Seriously–if only you knew you would be much more excited with me!!

We got this guy down to its bones and wanted to keep some of the wood (I’ve decided she is a girl though…just for the record). She was just in too good of shape to completely paint but the color needed some help…

Don’t Go Chasing Waterfalls

We have a couple of great waterfall pieces right now, one being a waterfall dresser. The other one is an end of a vanity or desk that my in-laws gave us. (awesome, right??) Because it was just the one piece we fixed it up and repaired everything we could on it. It had adorable hardware which we kept and painted and then went away on sanding and painting.

Drab Dresser From Turn Of the Century

This dresser was rescued about a month ago. It had mismatched handles was wobbly and needed love. A LOT OF LOVE. This dresser is from the turn of the century and needed to be completely dismantled. Literally, the top, sides, drawers, and everything was taken apart and given special attention.

Although this dresser came a long way. The hardware wasn’t salvageable for this piece, but we saved it all for future projects. The top barely made it through demolition and you can tell its old and wise, but it is still lovely. Like all 100+ year…
